According to the expert assessment of the association «Spetsstal», in 2023, compared to 2022, the volume of visible consumption of the main types of stainless steel products in Russia increased by 27.3% and amounted to 661.9 thousand tons.
Compared to 2021, the volume of visible consumption increased by 11.7%.
In 2023, the volume of visible consumption of flat x/k rolled products increased by 32.7%, flat g/k rolled products — by 7.3%, long products — by 39.1%, welded pipes — by 3.5%, seamless pipes — by 71.5% and wire — by 62.6%.
Visible consumption of primary billet decreased by 27.0%.
In 2023, the share of foreign products (including re-exports) in total visible consumption of stainless steel was 73.4% and domestic products 26.6% (71.3% and 28.7% respectively in 2022).

The volume of visible consumption of foreign products increased by 31.0% to 485.9 thousand tons, while that of Russian products increased by 18.0% to 176.0 thousand tons.
The most dependent on foreign products (more than 50%) sectors of stainless steel consumption in Russia were: flat cold-rolled products, where the share of imported products amounted to 96.2% (in 2022 — 99.3%), flat hot-rolled products — 78.7% (78.6%), seamless pipes — 76.8% (59.6%) and wire — 75.8% (79.8%).
