According to the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), global primary aluminum production in April 2024 was 5.898 million tonnes, up 3.3% from the same month last year. Average daily output added 0.1 thousand tons versus March to 196.6 thousand tons, the highest level since October 2023.
Overall, global output for the four months added 4.2% year-on-year to 23.757 million tons.
According to experts, this growth is due to such factors as a recovery in demand in a number of industry sectors, an increase in consumption in the solar energy sector, and higher profitability of companies in the industry due to the rise in stock exchange prices.
China, the world’s largest aluminum producer, increased output of the metal by 4.7% in April compared to the same month in 2023 to 3.500 million tons, according to IAI data. For the four-month period, output totaled 14.085 million tons. That was up 5.5% from the same period a year earlier.
Aluminum production in April and four months increased in all regions of the world, except Africa, where IAI notes a decline of 5.4% and 5.2%, respectively. In Russia and Eastern Europe, production in April is indicated at 335 thousand tons, and in January-April as a whole — at 1.354 million tons. This is respectively 1.8 and 2.1% more than a year earlier.
