BRICS

A unified platform — a chemical database using AI to systematize components and simplify navigation in the chemical space should be created in the BRICS countries. This was announced during a session at the XV International IT Forum in Khanty-Mansiysk with the participation of BRICS and SCO countries by Maxim Fedorov, Acting Director of the Institute of Information Transfer Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPPI RAS), member of the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

«There is a proposal now to create exactly on the basis of BRICS a platform — a chemical database with AI capabilities <…> to store chemical information. <…> Experts need modern methods of navigation in the chemical space. Artificial intelligence can provide such an opportunity, accelerating the search by at least 20 times, selecting clusters of compounds with the desired properties, estimating the cost of compounds, and so on,» he said at the session «Development of Artificial Intelligence Systems: Technological and Ethical Aspects».

Fedorov noted that it is difficult to search for the necessary molecules in a huge array of data, where more than 10,000 new ones appear every day. «We need to collect this data, process it and understand what risks these new molecules carry with them. These are molecules that have already been synthesized. And there are those that can be synthesized, they must also be sorted somehow, determine their properties and understand what to do with them,» he shared.

He proposed to use the platform in research for science, industry, pharmaceuticals, medicine and agricultural activities.
