Production of monolithic polycarbonate glass has been mastered in Russia

Specialists of A.G. Romashin ONPP «Technologiya» (part of Rostec) have mastered a unique low-cost technology for the production of glass from polycarbonate (PC) for transportation, including aviation. This was announced by Dmitry Chechin, head of the sector of the enterprise’s research laboratory, in the state corporation’s project «Nash Crash», TASS reported.
«Our difference is that we know how to make glazing products from sheet monolithic polycarbonate. All other countries do it with injection molding, which is very expensive and labor-intensive,» said Dmitry Chechin, specifying that sheet monolithic polycarbonate is used to create, among other things, glazing elements for the Russian fifth-generation fighter Su-57.
According to Dmitry Chechin, besides Russia, only a few countries in Europe, the USA and China possess the technology of creating glass with a minimum degree of optical distortion. At the same time, the cost of creating glass of the same area from monolithic polycarbonate is «hundreds of times less».
